Trimming should be done annually to keep your shrubs and hedges contained and aesthetically pleasing. Pruning is done to remove dead wood, diseased wood and weak branches.

As trees get very large, very heavy and very tall, the risk of branches breaking and falling increases. If a branch or main trunk becomes weak, it is often better to remove it. When a tight cable is installed the branch can become dependent on the added support and will not strengthen itself.
In order to help protect anything under large trees from falling branches, cabling systems have been developed that allow trees to grow normally without becoming dependent on the cables. They only come into play when excessive wind gusts occur. We do install such systems. They reduce risks but need to be monitored.
We do not encourage thinning or topping of trees. Removal of dead wood does not usually increase the vitality of a tree but can allow light to pass through the tree, making it safer to be under the tree, and make the tree look more attractive. Removal of dead wood also means less clean up after every wind storm.
Removal of up to 25% of the crown usually does not harm a tree. Such trimming may be necessary in order to remove branches rubbing against your house, removing branches to allow more sunlight, improve a view, allow more space beside and over a driveway or walkway, and also to allow other trees space to grow.
It is wise to have your trees trimmed or pruned regularly- every 1 to 5 years.
Our arborists are highly trained in fall arrest with the use of ropes and climb without spurs/spikes so that we will not damage your trees. Our bucket truck is also available for pruning and trimming.
This work can only be done by highly trained, qualified arborists with dielectric tested rubber gloves, dielectric pole pruners and sometimes a bucket truck.

Call us before you start cutting trees. It is often easier and less expensive to chip brush as each tree is cut down. Often a homeowner will cut down a tree or trees and then hire us to chip the brush. Usually when brush is piled it is hard to separate. Brush should not be piled if it is going to be removed.
